A simple way to bring your original windows back to life

This service is ideal for sash windows that are structurally sound, but beginning to fail mechanically.

Over time, wooden sash windows can become draughty, rattly, stiff, or even unsafe to open and close. Our draught-proof overhaul service helps restore proper function and comfort—without needing to replace the entire window.

The benefits of our DPO (Draught-Proof Overhaul)

Stops cold draughts
Prevents rattles
Reduces dirt, dust, and insect intrusion
Improves thermal efficiency
Increases insulation
Lowers external noise
Creates a window that runs smoothly and safely
This service is especially popular for listed buildings and period homes, where preserving the original windows is essential but a little upgrade makes all the difference to daily comfort.

What we do step by step

Remove the staff and parting beads

We carefully take out the original beadings and cut the cords.

Remove the sashes

Each sash is taken out of the box frame for inspection.

Inspect for damage

We check both the box and the sashes thoroughly and carry out any minor repairs as needed.

Re-cord the window

New sash cords are fitted as standard.

Add discreet draught-proofing

We route a brush pile draught seal into the meeting rail of the bottom sash to stop air and noise from passing through.

Rehang the sashes

The sashes are balanced and reinstalled for smooth operation.

Fit new staff and parting beads

We install our bespoke staff and parting beads, each fitted with integrated draught-proofing brush pile.

Replace locks and furniture (if needed)

If you’d like new ironmongery fitted at the same time, we’re happy to supply and install this too.
