How we got started & why we care

I found my passion for wooden sliding sash windows by complete accident. A friend asked me to help fit a very large window. I wasn’t expecting much—but I found it so satisfying to bring something back to its former glory that I decided to change careers entirely. I left my old job behind and started again, working as an apprentice and labourer for the company my friend was with. Over time, I became a service engineer, then a fitter, and eventually led the production team for what was, at the time, one of the best sash window companies in the country.

Later, I was head-hunted by a competitor to head up their production team. It was around that time that my wife, Lulu, suggested I go out on my own. She designed a leaflet, we had it printed, delivered it door to door—and The Sash Repair Shop was born.

A family business in every sense

Both Lulu and our son, Damien, had worked with me before in previous companies. They already knew the high standards I expected, and as the business grew, it made complete sense for them to come on board.

Today, it’s still just the three of us—David, Lulu, and Damien—running everything from the first phone call to the final installation. No sales reps. No subcontractors. Just a small, experienced team who genuinely care about the work we do and the people we do it for.

We know this is a big decision

We understand that, second only to buying your home, upgrading or restoring your windows and doors can be one of the biggest decisions you’ll make.

That’s why our aim is to make the whole process as easy, reassuring, and straightforward as possible. We offer advice based on decades of experience, we listen carefully to your needs, and we guide you through each step with honesty and care.

What to expect Our 5-Stage Process

Your Enquiry

Whether it’s by phone, email or our contact form, we’ll have a quick chat to get an idea of your requirements and book in a free initial visit

Initial Visit & Survey

This is where we introduce ourselves, talk through your needs in more detail, and answer any questions—no matter how small. There’s no such thing as a silly question. We’ve been doing this for years—you haven’t.

We’ll carry out a detailed survey of the windows and then leave you to decide how you’d like to proceed.

Detailed Survey & Order Confirmation

If you accept the quote, we’ll return to take final measurements, confirm any glass types, paint colours, and bespoke requirements, and agree your final order.

Production & Preparation

If you’ve ordered bespoke windows, they’ll head to our joinery workshop where our trusted craftsmen begin the build. If we’re restoring your existing sash windows, we’ll source materials and book in a date to begin.

Installation

When everything is ready, we’ll be in touch to arrange a convenient installation date. On the day, it’ll be Lulu, Damien, and myself turning up to carry out the work—with the same care and respect we bring to every home.

If you’d like to know more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, we’re always happy to chat.
